Terms of Service
Before you proceed to ILIAS you accept the following Terms of Service.
TERMS OF USE
The Estonian Defence Forces e-learning environment ILIAS is intended for learning, teaching, information exchange, and collaboration. Individuals belonging to the area of governance of the Ministry of Defence may register as users of the environment. The owner of the ILIAS e-learning environment is the Estonian Military Academy.
The service owner reserves the right to temporarily close the e-learning website for maintenance or other purposes when necessary. Whenever possible, advance notice will be provided on the ILIAS login page and the internal network of the Estonian Defence Forces.
By accepting this agreement, ILIAS users agree to comply with copyright legislation regarding all materials available within ILIAS. If a user’s role permits the uploading of materials, the user must ensure that all applicable legal requirements and good practices are followed.
Please note: The environment may contain documents intended for internal use only. By accepting the terms of use of the Estonian Defence Forces e-learning environment, you confirm that you will exercise all due care to ensure that documents intended for internal use are not disclosed to unauthorized persons. Disclosure of information intended for internal use may result in a fine of up to 300 fine units (Public Information Act, § 541 subsection 1).
The sharing of xenophobic, racist, politically or religiously extremist, or sexually offensive content is prohibited within the environment. Users are expected to communicate in a polite and respectful manner.
These terms of use may be amended by the owner of the environment. In such cases, users will receive a notification upon their next login and will be given the opportunity to accept the updated terms in order to continue using the environment. The currently valid terms of use are always available on the ILIAS login page.
User accounts that have not logged into the environment for more than 730 days may be deleted or deactivated without prior notice. Upon deletion of an account, all data associated with that account will also be deleted.
DATA PROTECTION
ILIAS does not share data collected within the environment with third parties.
1. Data Controller
The Estonian Military Academy is responsible for the storage and preservation of data collected within the ILIAS e-learning environment.
Each user of the environment may edit their personal data and determine the extent to which it is visible to other users. However, changes to the username, first name, last name, or personal identification code must be requested through the administrator.
2. Right to Erasure
If you wish to delete your user account, please notify the system administrator. Deleting a user account will also permanently remove all data associated with that account.
Following account deletion, locations where your username or full name previously appeared will instead display the message “User deleted” or “Anonymous.” However, content created individually or collaboratively by you (such as forum posts, wiki pages, or comments) will not be removed.
3. Cookies
ILIAS uses cookies. These are small files stored in your device’s web browser. Cookies enable ILIAS to distinguish your browser from other internet browsers containing different cookies.
Cookies serve the security interests of both users and the operator, as they allow ILIAS to verify whether a page request has been made by an authenticated user of the system.
ILIAS also uses temporary cookies, which become invalid once the session ends or the browser is closed. Your browser settings allow you to view which cookies have been set for ilias.mil.ee and to delete them if necessary. However, due to technical requirements, ILIAS cannot function without cookies.
4. Website Use and Registration
ILIAS may be used both by registered users and without registration. Unregistered users may access ILIAS as anonymous users, in which case no personal information is collected. Anonymous users only have access to content specifically made available to them.
However, in order to join groups, write forum posts, comments and messages, and use many additional functions, a user account and registration are required. After successful registration and activation of the user account by an administrator, users may log in to ilias.mil.ee using their chosen username and password (for Estonian users, access to the environment is provided through the national authentication service).
5. Registration Details and Personal Profile
When registering at www.ilias.mil.ee, the following personal data must be provided:
First name and last name
Email address
Organizational unit
Telephone number
Personal identification code
This information is required in order to identify you as a user of the system.
In addition, users may voluntarily provide further personal information. Voluntarily added information may be modified or deleted at any time via the “Personal Data” page, which can be accessed from the upper corner of the desktop interface next to the avatar.
On this page, users may also determine whether and to what extent their profile information is visible to other users. If a personal profile is not enabled, ILIAS will display only the username alongside content created by the user (such as comments, forum posts, blog entries, or wiki edits). If the profile is public within the environment, the user’s first and last name, and usually a link to the personal profile, will also be displayed.
6. Access to Personal Data
Unlimited access to your personal data within ilias.mil.ee is restricted to system administrators only.
In addition, certain personal data (such as email addresses) may be visible to the administrators of groups and courses of which you are a member. To view your memberships in courses and groups, visit the “My Courses and Groups” section on your personal dashboard. You may leave a course or group at any time by selecting “Remove from Course” from the actions dropdown menu next to the relevant course.
7. Retention Period of Personal Data
Personal data of users of the ILIAS e-learning environment will be retained for as long as the corresponding user account exists within ILIAS. Data will be deleted together with the deletion of the account, whether initiated by the user or automatically by the system.
8. SSL Encryption
For security reasons and to protect content, ILIAS uses an SSL certificate that encrypts network traffic between you and ILIAS.
You can recognize an encrypted connection by the “https://” prefix and the lock icon displayed in the browser address bar.
